At current production rates, we have just enough oil to last the world 53.3 years. (Smith) With the world 's limited oil supply that is decreasing drastically as you read this, there needs to be new products that create energy for our needs instead of fossil fuels. These fossil fuels produce Co2 which makes global warming a huge problem that needs to be slowed down. The fossil fuels that people use everyday, such as cars, are eliminating the ozone layer. This important ozone layer protects some sun rays from entering the earth. The thinner this ozone layer gets the more sun rays come through making the world warmer. Energy efficient products can reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use, therefore making a healthier environment. Not having to spend money on oil will help our economy. national defense? With energy efficient products, the U.S. doesn’t need to rely on other countries for oil. As mentioned before, a lot of oil the U.S. receives is from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is surrounded by terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, ISIS and Taliban. The U.S. doesn’t have to have troops in the middle east to protect oil. “The armed forces need fuel to supply their troops, but battleground supply missions can be dangerous. In fact, 80% of on-the-ground supply delivery missions to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are for fuel, and (on average) one soldier dies for about every 50 of those refueling convoys. In 2011 alone, there were 1,100 attacks on fuel convoys. Using electric and hybrid vehicles, energy-efficient generators and other energy-saving measures mean fewer convoys, and fewer convoys mean fewer casualties".
