Why We Should Pitbulls Be Banned

Improved Essays
I do not support the pitbull ban and i have many reason you and I should not support it either. I have taken textual evidence and have put together an argumentative essay on why I don’t support the forbidding of the pitbull breed.

My first reason why i don’t support the ban is because pitbulls are mistaken for other dog breeds. Two primary examples are the American Bulldog and the Boxer. For example in the news paper editorial it states that “News outlets erroneously report dog attacks. If a dogs breed is unknown, news media will often call it a pitbull.” And later in the text it says, “Even if it is later revealed that the dog was not in fact a pitbull, the damage is done, and the idea of the pitbull as a dangerous breed is reinforced

Once again , in the news paper editorial the following is said, “News outlets consistently tell animal control officers that they would not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pitbull.” They say this so clearly as if they are trying to give pitbulls a bad reputation on purpose. So in my part the reason pitbulls have bad reputation with the media is because the news only reports pitbull attacks. Thus, it’s it news outlets fault they have such bad ‘reputation’.

And my last and concluding reason is that i’ve had personal experience with one. In fact when I came into contact with a pitbull that was my friends, it was completely harmless! This is because my friend had trained the dog to be harmless to people and other animals like dogs. In my opinion it’s the owners fault that the pitbulls have the title ‘vicious’. The owner should train the dog so accidents wouldn’t happen.

But then again, i can see why people that support the pitbull ban. In Source 2: Newspaper Article it says that a pitbull attacked a 8 year old girl. And after the attack the girl needed to get major surgeries over the following

First things first, Pit Bulls are very good at agility, carting, weight pulling, hunting, and tracking. They are also great when it comes to farming and protecting livestock. They are very energetic and require daily activity. They are great with people but will need socialization with other dogs at a young age, because if they don't get that time they may misbehave or even wrestle with other dogs because they might think that the other dog is trying to attack someone. They are easy to have though because they have very few dental problems and their hair is very easy to groom.…

Pitbulls are beautiful in their variety, but their most appealing features are their inner qualities. Strength, confidence, a sense of humor and a zest for life are all hallmarks of the breed. They also tend to be sensitive and get their feelings hurt easily (“Reflecting on Pit Bulls - Whatever they are!”. Badrap.org.). Showing that the dog has feelings and that it has a sense of emotions give people a soft spot for these dogs.…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

I’m opposed to ban any breed of dogs, including the pit bull because all dogs have the capability to be aggressive if trained too. People think certain breeds of dogs like the pit bull should be banned because some have been attacking people and have caused several deaths. What some people don’t know is that a pit bull is not a breed of dog.…

All four dog breeds are being punished for something another Pit Bull did. They will either be killed using tax payer money, or lose their homes and be relocated to a shelter in another pit bull safe province. Banning four dog breeds will have a detrimental impact on someone's life. For example, in Montreal, Québec a pit bull ban has just recently begun. Owners of pit bulls must decide if it is possible to move to another province without the ban, or to try and get permits to let their dogs stay with them in Montreal.…

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…

Pitbulls are very loyal dogs their good with children, they love humans, and are even used as service dogs to help those with disabilities and the media doesn 't portray this part about pit bulls. What the media targets are only things that would come to a shock or surprise to the society and the problem with this is that the media is not always correct about they say because they focus on one side of the story and what they see, what they leave out is cause of the situation or the background of it. For example, according to the article “ The Pit bull Placebo” “ In the 1970s the practice of dog fighting was becoming more aware to the public and in 1976 a californian boy was killed by a dog that was described to be a Bulldog, Bull terrier,…
