Did you know that over 50 Billion plastic water bottles are used each year by Americans alone. That’s over 150 times the population of America. Just sit and think how many water bottles that actually is, because it is easy to forget how big of a number that actually is. I think bottle flipping should be banned for three main reasons: It’s bad for the environment, the bottles get left everywhere, and It’s loud and annoying. First off, those 50 billion water bottles have to go somewhere and where do you think they go? Most go straight to landfills. I’m sure you’re thinking, “but people recycle and reuse water bottles,” in 2012, the average American used about 167 water bottles, but only recycled about 38. That is going to have a pretty dynamic effect on landfills alone in a few years. This means that about 11 Billion water bottles went to landfills. People don’t always throw water bottles away though, sometimes they just litter them.

How much do you think animals, like birds, enjoy eating part of a plastic bottle that was left around, and then choking to death? They probably don’t like it too much. Scientists have found pieces of plastic bottles and bottle caps inside of dead bird remains, and inside of pellets. We even do it to other humans (not the choking on plastic part) we litter in schools, work places, streets, all over the place. If you look along a road for a couple miles, I guarantee you’ll find some plastic water bottles because people just don’t clean up after themselves. Have you seen those videos where people flip bottles in random places like on a McDonald's sign? Do you really think they grab a really tall ladder and get the bottle down? NO, they just leave the bottle up there. Then, a janitor or someone like that has to find a way to get it
