Why We Should Not Take Protein Supplements

Twenty-Five year old women who worked part time at a hospital, and had two kids, and went to college also was training to be a bodybuilder. To do so she went to the gym sometimes sometimes twice a day and had a high protein diet which include protein supplements and drinks past away after being found in her home unconscious. Doctors found out she had a rare genetic condition called urea cycle disorder. According to Health Magazine ‘’One of six enzymes that help remove ammonia—a toxic byproduct that’s created when protein is metabolized—from the bloodstream… When ammonia in the blood reaches the brain, it can cause irreversible brain damage or death.” Which means that that her body could not handle protein. From having too much protein and not realizing it to having too much protein that it is damaging your organs is very serious stuff. That is why I believe that you should not take protein supplements. …show more content…
We need protein to survive so we make sure we have plenty. Many people in the United States think that they are lacking in protein so they take protein supplements and protein shakes. Bodybuilders like to have a protein supplement after workouts. According to Benefits of Protein Supplements “ that many athletes do not understand the role of protein and ultimately over consume.” Not knowing how bad it can be, from damaging our organs to not getting the important nutrients that you get from eating protein in regular food. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe that most Americans consume more protein than they need to meet their daily
