Why We Should Not Have To Do Homework

Decent Essays
When children come home from school they usually want to do something besides school, but instead they come home upset because they have to do homework. Students who have homework usually start to have problems with themselves. Also, it makes the students very overwhelmed and miserable. I understand that doing homework will help students practice a subject or learn more about it. Assigning homework to students is detrimental because it can lead to health problems, it gives students not enough free time to do other activities too. Also, doing homework after school will decrease their scores.

The first reason why teachers should not assign homework is because it can lead to having health problems such as stress, anxiety, and sleep deprivation, etc. Students tend to spend so much time after school doing homework which affects the eight hours they are suppose to have of sleep, and this leads to students gaining depression because it is found that sleep deprivation leads to depression. Also, it causes stress which is another health problem, and how this affects is that students would become worried about the due of homework and time to do it which stresses the students because they don`t want to fail.

Students spend way too much time doing homework that is unneeded. For example, when a child comes home and does the needed time for homework, 2-4 hours. They then need to eat, and get ready for bed which takes about 1-2 hours, so children usually only have roughly around 2 hours for other activities, which is not enough because students should be able to learn social skills to help them in the real world instead of keeping to ¨practice¨ a

First of all, homework causes stress on students. We may as well just spend all day at school if we are having school at home anyways. Students should go to school, work on “school” work, then come home and not do “school” work at home. This would increase the productivity and attitudes of students. I, for one, would be in a much better mood concerning school if I knew that I didn’t have to look forward to coming home to more school work.…

If kids didn’t have to worry about getting certain assignments done for the next day, I do agree with Darter that, kids would have more time to be kids. In her article Darter refers to a study done at Duke University. The study showed that “all it does is negatively impact kids’ attitudes towards school, learning, and their parents(the homework enforcers).” This research shows, not proves, that homework does have an effect on studies ability to do well in…

Whether you go to school, or whether you’re done with school, everyone is somewhat affected by homework. But due to the fact that everyone is at least slightly affected by homework, that means that everyone is affected negatively. For instance parents, yes of course homework lets them see what their kid is doing at school, which don’t get me wrong is good. But if I'm being honest, homework disturbs family life. It prevents students from spending quality time with their family or friends.…

We could be spending time with our family or playing after school activities. Also we could be hanging out with friends. The second reason students shouldn't have homework is because we already go to school for seven hours. We learn all day so why should we have to go home and do more work when that's our time off. We deserve so free time after going to school for seven hours.…

Homework does give students extra practice that is often needed, but when students are given too much it tends to do the opposite of what teachers and parents may want. If the right amount of homework is given, we may be able to remember it for helping us get an A on a test, not for taking away our…

With that being said, families can grow closer and become more involved with the education. (teach-nology cite) Getting uplifting comments from the student’s teacher, can put an impact on their confidence and self-esteem. A research done by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) informs of students doing two hours of homework or less which are: a small five percent of nine-year-olds, seven percent of thirteen-year-olds, and thirteen percent of seventeen-year-olds. The NAEP also adds the students who do more than two hours of homework are typically above the average classes.…

Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th…

Which means no family time because when homework is done its bedtime, and every kid that age should have time with their family and friends it’s an important part of growing up. There is also the fact about the stress placed on these students and their parents. When a child needs help with homework they ask their parents or teacher. They can’t ask their teacher from home or their parents if they are at work. The argument of “why can’t they ask the teacher during class for help?”.…

With all of the stress that is already coming from school, homework only emphasizes that. There should be less homework because it takes up students time, causes a lot of stress, and causes many personal and social problems. A primary reason that students have less free time is that teachers assign an excessive amount of homework. Some students have said “Homework is all I have time for; there’s never…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

Homework should be given as optional if the students want to help their grade. Understanding the homework would be easier if it was just classwork because the teacher would be able to help guide through it. Some may argue that homework is a good thing because it helps with…

This is because the average student receives excessive amounts of homework, which is causing stress, among other things. The "Ten-Minute Rule" is a suggested homework limit endorsed by the National PTA and the National Education Association of the United States. It recommends ten minutes of homework per grade level, per night. High school students, then, should receive no more than 90-120 minutes of homework each night. A survey taken in 2014 showed that these students actually spent, on average, 3.5 hours doing homework, each night.…
