Why We Should Not Have Dress Code In Schools

Dinuba High School principal, Yolanda Valdez says “The dress code sets the tone for the atmosphere on your campus.” Dress code has an impact on the school and the students. In public schools today there are students that come from a diversity of backgrounds and are all different people. Students should come to school dressed in something they’re comfortable wearing. Schools should focus more on individuality instead of a dress code. Schools shouldn’t have a dress code because school should be a place where a student can express themselves individually. Another reason is that schools should focus on the main purpose, which is to educate. The last reason is that school uniform emphasize social divisions. We should get rid of the dress code so students will feel more comfortable at school. Students should have the freedom of expressing …show more content…
That is what should be focused on instead of what students are wearing. The school might think that with a dress code it will benefit the student and help their learning. Letting students choose how they dress can help them later on in life. Many jobs will not require a certain way to dress. Uniforms can distract from learning more than no uniforms, because if one thing is out of the norm it will be harder to focus. How students dress is not a part of the educational process. Having uniforms could help make all of the students to feel equal. School uniforms could emphasize social divisions. In a poor neighborhood it is more likely for there to be uniforms. This is to help students to all look nice and clean. Although this doesn’t help the problem. Richer families may have more than one uniform and a poorer family might only have one torn or faded uniform. School uniforms cannot change the differences between what money people have. The parents of the child should be able to choose what they wear based on what they can
