Why We Should Not Have Community Service To High School Students

Decent Essays
I do not agree with this policy. Students that are going through high school have to work hard enough already. They should not have to worry about community service to graduate. Every student spends at 4 years in high school and having them do community service should not decide if they graduate or not.We have other people who can do the community service besides high school kid's.

kids should not have to worry about community service. Kids start high school their freshmen year, and spend time working every year all the way until they get to their last year as a senior. Adding community service to everything that they are already doing would just add more pressure to them.

Graduating has never required community service. Changing something that has already been in place for so long would be pointless.High school kids should not have to do community service. They have already worked hard enough for 4 years in the first place.

People who are in jail should be the ones to do community service, not high school kids. Their are people in in jail that think they deserve some things, and I think that instead of giving high school students this. They should give it to prisoners it could give them something to do,it would help keep our community clean, and it could help them to maybe better them selves as people.

So in conclusion I think that giving community service to high school kids they should adopt this rule some where else.Let kids celebrate their last year of school. Not give them another assignment that decides weather they graduate or not.Thank you for your time. Have a wonderful

In the source, The Community Is Their Textbook: Maryland's Experiment with Mandatory Service for Students, by Suzanne Goldsmith, the question of whether or not community service should be required for graduation is examined. Some raise the concern of it politicizes students, as community service can include protests, petition, making signs, etc. For example, students have positioned for a city to paint notices on storm drains, to prevent people from dumping garbage into them. Although a good cause many are concerned about how far it will go. Another argument, specifically made by a student who is filling a lawsuit in protest of the new requirement, says required community service takes the heart and the fun out of community service, to which…

Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

By the time people enter into jail or prison, they have normally been a part of the system numerous times. Trying to rehabilitate or give consequences for people’s actions that late in the game does no good in regard to enabling them to change their life style. People have to be reached much earlier than when they enter into the criminal justice system. That is why there should be more programs for youth and programs that encourage education. If youth remain in school and are also given vital resources like safe places to live, food, and positive environments then they may be less likely to commit crime.…

Before attending high school, my elementary school teachers would talk about civic engagement, and their descriptions lead me to believe that participating in community service would be boring and burdensome. I remember my teachers saying things like,” In high school you’re going to have to do community service in order to graduate. Such as volunteer at an elderly home, or an animal shelter.” Prior to actually completing a service project, I only had an unappealing image of community service in mind. However, once I got to high school, I grew to love community service as well as learn the importance of…

I have completed many hours of community service and I believe that it is my responsibility to involve myself in my community in any way possible. Getting involved in the community helps build a strong character and it teaches certain values that will benefit other communities. Speaking of community improvement, it is also my responsibility to pay any taxes set for me by our state and federal governments. Without taxpayer money, it would be impossible to maintain many of our most precious and crucial government funded organizations. If the American people allowed those organizations to fade away, we would be hurting our country and helping ourselves.…

I that there is a lot of evidence to repeal that teens shouldn’t face life sentences without parole or even face the death penalty seems like an unjustifiable manner and morally incorrect and we should approach these situations to make a positive impact on the lives of these distraught juveniles. Leaving them confined in prison would only worsen the situation and cause a more mental breakdown for most of these kids and teens. We can make a difference in their lives to make an effort to change their perspective to encourage them to have an aptitude will to make the right choices. What good will it do to have a teen be sentenced to prison for the duration of their lives if they will have nothing to show for their resentment of their mistakes and reflect on what they could have done. They should at least have a chance to earn a shorter sentence if they see that they have made an improvement inwards their behavior and truly understand what they did was wrong and learn from their mistakes.…

If the Congress consider to make a plan to require all future U.S. high school graduates to spend one year in service to their country before college, and make them participate in either the military, or the civilian service program. I believe this would be unfair and this would immensely affect our community around us! This should not be mandatory for high school students because they are still developing their responsibilities, habits, and life plans. Therefore , If high school students were given a chance to do so, most would crack under pressure.…
