Although it may be beneficial for more server cases, there is a shortage of mental health professionals, it is not easy to access, as well as not being fully affective. In this essay, I will further add to the argument of not prescribing medication to teens as well as alternatives. So even though black children are more prone to mental health issues, they have a hard time accessing it at home and at school. Nell Ross, a social worker, said, “the school where I work is in a very poor neighborhood that doesn’t have that many recourses, and our kids have stressful lives to begin with”( Lisa Ross pg.6). They are not able to access medication or psychologists for the kids since there are not enough psychologists positions or they don’t have the budget for it. The side that agrees with the medication, believes that those who do not have access to it can drive to another county to receive it. However, many Americans, including minorities, are not able to take off work or can’t afford the expense of traveling.Minorities like lower class citizens can not afford the expensive medication and the travel expense to get there. There is also a shortage of professionals, so they may even be forced to drive in neighboring states.
