Why We Should Not Be Allowed To Be Anonymous Online

People should not be allowed to be anonymous while they are online. It is unsafe and unfair for all other people who are using the internet. Anonymity online can be very dangerous for users who are unaware that people can push their agendas and commit criminal acts without fear of being identified. If people are allowed to be online without identifying themselves, then they will be able to do and say anything without being held responsible. Criminals will be able to commit cyber crimes without being traced; these criminals will be able to operate freely without worry of being caught or paying any penalties for their actions. Hate groups will be allowed through online anonymity to spread their messages of hate, hostility, and abomination without fear of being exposed. A cyber-bully can operate anonymously without fear of being caught or punished all the while inflicting devastation on the lives of their peers completely without repercussions. They can sneak in like a thief in the night taking people’s identity, hard earned money, and most of all, their sense of security. Then there are other unsavory individuals who can spread viruses to get at many people’s personal records, passwords, and information at one time like through email accounts and social media accounts. The option to be anonymous in this group of individuals is especially risky because of the potential to do damage to large numbers of people leaving no one safe.
