Professional athletes and Drug Tests.

Professional athletes having mandatory drug tests has been in the media lately due to athletes being on PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) and other illegal drugs. I believe that even being an elite athlete does not excuse you from a mandatory drug test. First of all, without mandatory drug tests athletes would be using PEDs to give them an unfair advantage over other players not using them. Secondly, if they didn't have drug tests players would be out getting high and that would not be a good image for the league and team they represent. Thirdly, drugs are not good period, and they are illegal and also a health risk.
Professional athletes that use PEDs and other illegal drugs give them unfair advantages over athletes that don't abuse them. They give them the ability to be able to push past normal fatigue. It also makes them stronger depending on the type of drug they use. It can make them have a lot more energy than normal. So obviously, it gives them unfair advantages over other players that don't abuse PEDs and other drugs.

Players abusing drugs is never good no matter what drugs they use. It wouldn't be good for the league the player represents, the team they represent, or even the player. Even with the drug tests when players are caught it's not good for business of the league or team, and I believe that professional sports wouldn't be as popular if all the players were on illegal drugs. So clearly professional athletes should have mandatory drug tests for the sake of the league, the team, and the

The MLB (Major League Baseball) has banned steroids, better known as a type of PED (performance enhancing drug). I insist steroids should not be banned from the organization. With the ban, we will never know what could have been the absolute potential of each player that made it to the big leagues. Steroids will benefit the league because they prevent many injuries, which is beneficial to the ballplayers and their teams club. Steroids being allowed leads to baseball becoming more popular, which then leads to baseball becoming more profitable as long as certain limits are observed to keep the players from experiencing the more serious side-effects.…

J Savulescu, B Foddy, and M Clayton, all professors in the field of sports medicine, argue in their article “Why we should allow performance enhancing drugs in sport” that the use of performance enhancing drugs is becoming more effective despite the health risks present in these drugs, stating “… despite the health risks, and despite the regulating bodies attempts to eliminate drugs from sport, the use of illegal substances is widely known to be rife” (Savulescu et al. 3). Scholarly professors and sports fan alike tend to be biased when the phrase “performance enhancing drugs” is thrown around and fail to fully analyze the issue. The truth of the matter is that the use of such drugs will harm the athlete, but with certain restrictions these drugs can be safe. Setting limitations to athletes and having medical supervision over these drugs can provide benefits to the sport and end the ongoing issue of the legalization of performance enhancers. Rather than testing for drugs, medical professionals and sports analyst should look more into the issue of health and fitness, putting the strength of individuals to the test, as this is what sports portray.…
