As of 2017, NASA’s budget was 19.1 billion dollars (NASA), which is only .1% of America’s GDP and 30 times less than the United States defense budget . NASA is very important but it does not get the money it needs. We need to fund NASA more so we can continue improving our aeronautics.
We should fund NASA more because it is helpful to everyone. One reason why NASA is helpful is how NASA creates opportunities for many scientist in the united states. Almost 50 years after Neil Armstrong and “Buzz” Aldrin stepped on the moon, no other country has put a man (or women) on the moon. Today we dream about what we will step foot on next, Mars. Acrooding the NASA, those dreams may be a reality in the next 15 years. But, this is only possible with the money the government provides for us. $19.1 billion is a lot of money, but it is nowhere near the amount of money needed for a mission to Mars and back. An increase of NASA’s budget will increase the amount of research and development and could possibly put a man (or woman) on the red planet sooner than we expected. NASA opened for business almost 60 years ago on October 1, 1958. Since then, NASA has relied on the government to fund some of their needs. NASA spent $5.6 billion on Earth science, planetary science, and astrophysics (NASA). $8.4 billion on Human Exploration Operations (NASA). $790 million for aeronautical research and much more (NASA). Only about 4.5% of NASA’s budget is aeronautical research. NASA spends much of its money to help improve our knowledge on many aspects and science about our planet and other objects. This helps us from knowing the diameter of Neptune to the surface features of Mars and to discovering thousands of exoplanets which could be our future. Our future could also be in the hands of Mars which is to be colonized for years to come. People could possibly say NASA has not affected tham, why do we even need it? The thing is it has, but you may not even know. NASA launched hundreds of satellites which have taken pictures even billions of miles away from Earth. NASA has made many air and spacecrafts that even our military uses. NASA has been working to improve the health of astronauts in space who are not protected from ultraviolet rays from the sun.
