America has a bad history with required military service. The most recent draft, during the Vietnam war, ended in a public outcry. People thought that the draft for the Vietnam war was pointless. It is made up of people who understood the risks and made the choice to join. If there was an extreme reason that required more people to join, such as war, more people would volunteer. In addition, the military offers many benefits that people join voluntarily. These are more reasons to not implement a policy to force America’s young into military service.
Not all people can serve. There are issues that vary from health problems to criminal backgrounds. People might not have the skill set or physical health to serve. There would have to be restrictions to prevent any harm. The military would only be as strong as its weakest links.
Some countries force their young into military service, but America currently does not. In my opinion, military service should not be required. People should be able to decide if they want to join or not. If they do not want to volunteer, they should be allowed to make this decision. This is one of the best features of
