Competitive eating competitions should be banned because they have many health risks and have become a hazard to competitors' health. According to Sarah McCarry's article, competitive eating has been know to have health risks for obesity, diabetes, severe stomach problems, and even death.(McCarry 1) Competitive eating, if banned, could take away all those risks and leave more people healthy and alive. Another health issue that makes an even bigger impact than the other health risks is Gastroparesis, commonly known as stomach paralysis. Just for one person in a single contest, 65 hot dogs can be consumed. (Read Works 2) This is more than plenty of the amount of food the body needs to survive, and the food would have been better used if it was sent to people who really needed it. Also, we live in a world where 805 million people everyday go hungry, and all the same hundreds of competitive eating contests are going on with people gorging down as much food as they can down their throats. (McCarry 17) The food isn't being put to the use that could save people, it's just being used for entertainment that isn't needed in society. Lots of amounts of food are being used for these contests and should be better used to help families and people survive instead of just an entertainment
