Most of the people whothat do this are smart people who know the basics of survival out in the wilderness. Jon Krakauer wrote about one of the many people who wanted to live off the grid, but the one portrayed is not exactly Bear Grylls. Into The Wild follows the journey of Chris McCandless (aka Alex Supertramp) on his journey to and stay in Alaska. Chris was unusual. He didn’t like the way society was and seemed to be somewhat of a loner later on, according to his friends. This was probably the reason foron going to the Alaskan bush. But going there with only a 10 lb bag of rice, an underpowered rifle, no form of direct communication, and absolutely no basic survival skill. He was out of his mind. Yes, it may have been the 90’s and people only had massive brick phones for portable phones but at least bring something to contact people and not just written notes. Today’s survivalists now bring many things for survival. Tent’s, plenty of food, proper weapons and ammo, and most importantly: some sort of electronic beacon/radio that can hone in on their position if activated so they can be rescued if they are in some sort of sticky situation. Chris had absolutely none of these things and he expected to survive for an extended period of time. Don’t bother with trying to ask him about why he did this as his lifeless body was found inside of an abandoned bus which was nick-named the Magic Bus(too much, Magic Bus! ha, funny
