a. As you read the devotional about consuming the things that fill us but do not nourish our bodies, souls, and lives, what memories came to mind? How did these instances demonstrate immediate rather than long-term satisfaction?
As I read the devotional about consuming the things that fill us but do not nourish our bodies, souls, and lives the memories that come to mind includes shopping, tanning, and purchasing scratch off lottery tickets. Each one of these memories commonly take place when I am feeling overwhelmed and want to let things go for a moment. I often times go shopping when I should be doing other things, but feel like I need a break from the tasks that I need to complete. I often times purchase things just because it makes me feel better not because I need things. Commonly I also purchase items for my children that they don’t need, but I think they may want. I gain a sense of happiness when I am shopping and purchasing things that I like and want then when I go home I usually think I don’t really need the item. I have enough of everything that I need, yet the instant gratification of purchasing the item makes me feel happy although I don’t need the item. I don’t take much times for myself and tanning almost forces me to do so because I can’t do anything else so I use tanning to force myself to take a break from everything, yet as soon as soon as that 15 minutes is up I am right back where I started and feeling overwhelmed.
