Why We Honor Our Veterans What is a veteran? Some definitions say it is someone who has fought in a war or someone who has extensive experience in a certain field. Others may say it is someone who fights for our rights and freedom as Americans. However, none of these explanations quite capture the essence of what it is that veterans do. They fight for their lives as well as ours, our country as well as our families, and our present as well as our future. This is why our veterans deserve the highest form of respect, because they do what no one else will: fight.
