Why We Are Stuffed Animal Animals

Throughout life there are and will always be things you desire, that’s just human nature. We are never content with what we have; no matter how privileged we are, we always feel as if we need more. A few years back, while I was cleaning out my closet, I came across a huge pink bin that has been concealed by my clothes for as long as I can remember. On the surface lied a Harry Potter board game I had played once, a hacky sack I won in Kalahari, a Britton Elementary School plastic megaphone, and many other forgotten toys and trinkets I hadn’t touched in years. I removed more items and buried just beneath those useless objects, I discovered an abundance of plush toys squished tightly in the bin like packaged meat. Countless different stuffed …show more content…
We had just finished eating pizza when Maya asked my brother, Luke, and me if we had heard of “Webkinz”. We hadn’t, so she explained to us that they are stuffed animal pets you virtually care for by entering the number on the tag of the toy. We all ran upstairs to the computer and scoured the online catalog. We inspected every animal they had to offer and I immediately decided which Webkinz I wanted. I fell in love with the Webkinz Chihuahua as soon as I laid eyes on it. By this time my parents, as well as Maya and Arya’s, had made their way up the stairs to come see what we were all so excited about. We recited our explanation as to what a Webkinz is. Then I showed my mom and dad the glorious photograph of the Chihuahua stuffed animal from the website, and told them in great detail how much I liked it. By the next holiday we had acquired our own Webkinz. Luke received the monkey that he had asked for and I gratefully accepted my Chihuahua. The next day, Maya and Arya raced over (with their new Webkinz of course). We crowded around the computer and the screen lit up our faces as Maya typed in the web address. We each took turns making our accounts and helping each other decide on a username and

“Desire” was not only the title of the poem, but also what I initially felt towards the poem. I’ve never been like those people who automatically know the central idea the moment they read a poem, but I had that desire to identify a central message. Without even realizing it, I automatically began to read the poem scanning for a meaning, the central idea, something to grasp onto. Just like the bees, I found myself buzzing around searching for a meaning or as Billy Collins states in his poem, I was trying to “...torture a confession out of it” (Collins 14). Looking back, I realize how similar I am to the bees in this poem, like the bees, I wasn’t sure how to get to my destination.…

Eighner describes the addictive behavior of gathering fascinating and invaluable things found whilst scavenging. “All the Dumpster divers I have known come to the point of trying to acquire everything they touch” (145), Eighner writes, acknowledging the presence of hoarding in the world of dumpster diving. He too, admits that he was shocked in realizing that not everything he found was worth acquiring. For people who have nothing, everything seems valuable and advantageous. “Every bit of glass may be a diamond, they think, and all that glistens, gold” (145).…

These short stories, The Symposium by Plato and The Kama Sutra illustrate that individuals want what they are unable to have to stratify their cravings. Exactly like Socrates stated in The Symposium, ‘’…probable but absolutely certain that one desires what one lacks, or rather that one does not desire what one does not lack…’’ (Plato 76). This quotation is stating that an individual who owns something that another desire can attract the person that desire what they possess. The purpose of wanting something that we do not possess makes us feel complete.…

The poem “Choices” has all left something in our hearts, from the complicated words that it proposes from the twists of irony, tangled up in a knot; it either being a lesson, morale, etc. One part from this poem that I felt a link with was the second stanza, which stated, If i can't have/ what i want... then/ my job is to want/ what i've got/ and be satisfied/ that at least there/ is something/ more to want. To me this states that we should be satisfied by what we have, than what we desire. My situation relates to this situation perfectly.…

Human beings act upon both their emotions and instincts to determine what they need in order to survive, and what they want to fulfill any sentimental desires. Because of our personal perspectives and our unique individuality, what we require versus what we yearn for can differ from person to person. This common variation causes a kind of controversy in the discussion of what the most constructive lifestyle comprises of. Many have authored books, directed documentaries, and appeared on television to offer their thoughts and hopefully convince their audience to agree with them. Specifically, “Everything Now”, an essay, by Steve McKevitt identifies and outlines his personal judgments on the difference of wants and needs to conclude that society…

Back in elementary school, my parents both worked full time and my relatives had better things to do than watch me, so what did i do after school? I went to daycare, of course. There was a lovely daycare program built into the back of my school, and every day at 3pm, i’d waddle over there and play for 3 hours. The daycare had everything my seven year old little heart could desire: legos, a computer with learning games, a big doll house, and even a little mouse named Coco. Coco was a itty-bitty little dwarf hamster who liked to be free and live his little hamster life without care, but his cage confined him to a life of imprisonment at a daycare.…
