Why Was World War 2 Be Considered A Good War?

Obviously, Mythmaking and the War to me was an interesting reading I thought was good but also upsetting due to the facts that it discussed. If World War II was considered to be a good war then what would be considered a bad war? War is war I think, and no matter how it is put. How can a war be considered to be a good war. In war goos soldiers are lost on a daily basis and they aren’t not the only causalities that are lost. Among the causalities are the innocent that get caught in between the lines of the soldiers at war. This also leads me to one things that I found upsetting. Which was when the death toll of Americans was compared to other soldiers of other countries. Are causalities were at a high rate but were dwarfed by others such as being compared to the Japanese who lost 2.3 million and the Germans with a 5.6 million. This gave me the feeling that the body count was being taking into account and the ones who lost more were the ones that were a part of the bad war. Was it because Americans didn’t have as much causalities as the others that it was considered to be a good war? Nevertheless its war and don’t think any war should be considered a good or bad war. In my opinion whether the Americans lost the war or won the war, Americans lives were …show more content…
His goals were set on world domination and from what my understanding is he got pretty darn close to what he wanted to achieve during World War II. So when Hitler was compared to Saddam Hussein they are similar in the aspects of being dictators. They did what dictators do and that is to fulfill their greedy needs and it’s what they did that started wars for others that needed to stand up to fight for their freedom. This is another fact that upset me in the reading which was going to war and in war lives are lost. It’s those lives that should be remember for what they did and how they died, as well what they died

World War II is frequently labeled the ‘Good War,’ as it is characterized as one of the few wars in history that is justified by a majority of the world. Throughout the entirety of the war, the Allied forces worked to defeat the nefarious Axis powers. Paul Fussell’s book The Boys’ Crusades exhibits the truth about World War II, and it shows the harsh reality of combat. Young servicemen in America risked their lives in battle, and while they are respected for their work, few people understand the brutality they endure. The Boys’ Crusades argues that the brutality of war must be understood by the public, and as a result of the harshness of combat, World War II cannot be classified as the ‘Good War.’…

In the article Hayfoot, Strawfoot, Bruce Catton, an American historian and journalist, claims that soldiers in the American Civil War were effective even though they were unorganized, unsophisticated and had harsh conditions. He also explains men were drafted for the war, instead of volunteering like they do today. He shows and supports this in many ways. He supports his claim first by showing the lack of education and sophistication came from boys signing up for the war that were under the age of eight-teen. Then, he expands evidence by saying the boys under the age of eight-teen would put the number eight-teen in the sole of their shoe.…

On the 1st of September, 1939, Nazi Germany invaded Poland, and effectively began the second world war. The groups fighting against one another were the Axis powers–Germany, Italy, and Japan– and the Allies– France, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and later the United States. The United States stayed out of the war for some time, many feared that joining the war would weaken the already unstable economy recovering from the Great Depression. However, on December 7th, 1941, the Japanese, led by Emperor Hirohito, bombed an American Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which caused America to join the war immediately. After Pearl Harbor was bombed, Americans were furious with the Japanese and more than willing to join the effort against Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, and the axis powers.…

War is hell, but that’s not the half of it, because war is also mystery and terror and adventure and courage and discovery and holiness and pity and despair and longing and love” (O’Brien 78, 80). Due to war’s immunity to generalization and abstraction, a true war story does not have a defined beginning or end. “ You can tell a true war story if you just keep on telling it” (O’Brien 85). It flows on and on as if a mighty river, both awe striking in its unfathomable beauty and revolting in its raw destructive power; but one cannot be without the other. Therefore, war must be embraced within the equilibrium of its qualities: “The truths are contradictory.…

September 2, 1945, marked the victorious end to a brutal war, World War II. Some historians argue that this and all other wars had no purpose and should not have been fought. Although there were many tragedies that occurred in this and other wars, there are undoubtedly more positive acts that come from partaking in war than negative ones. The negatives of war may be death and the destruction of cities, which could devastate a country’s economy, but this is expected with any major confrontation in history. War can lead to the correction of social injustices enacted on people; the Civil War ended slavery, and World War II caused an end to the Holocaust.…

The United States officially entered World War II on December 8, 1941 right after the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Japan was after the Naval Fleet and ground bases at the attack because they thought it would keep America out of the war. America joined their allies already in the fight, China, France, the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and many other countries. This war had tremendous support and involvement from its countries citizens and some even believe that without that home front’s support we might’ve lost. “A home front is where civilians work toward the war effort and experience the horrors of war firsthand.”…
