Why Was The Magna Carta Important

Why was the Magna Carta an important part of the Middle Ages? The Magna Carta was an important part of the Middle Ages because it was the first important document signed in that time. Also it was believed to be the beginning of a new constitutional government. It demonstrated that the king's power could be limited by a written grant.

King John came into rule after his brother Richard but his rule over England wasn't as significant as his brothers. In 1204 John lost the battle against Northern France which led to him coming back and higher the taxes to pay for the defeat. In 1214 John decided to go back and try to regain Northern France but got defeated again which led to him coming back and trying to higher tax which later led to the signing of the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta is in England and the Constitution in North America. The Magna Carta was most likely the first document ending complete anarchy in England. The leader of the country King John was now under an oath type thing where before he did anything he had to consult someone. Sort of like in America before Barack Obama makes a law he has to consult the Supreme Court and the Congress and people of that sort. The Magna Carta changed American society too. Grammy nominated rap artist Jay Z named his album Magna Carta/Holy Grail because the Magna Carta basically was made to give power back to the people. Though he isn't making new rules he's ushering in a new era for hip hop. He's basically saying he is able to rewrite the "rules" that already existed in the hip-hop
