People always want to help our troops overseas like sending money or writing letters, but can you help just by not eating a certain food? Why yes you can because in World War 1 we did that exact thing. It was called Hooverizing. On August, 1917 the Food Administration was created to manage the supply, conservation, distribution, and transportation of food (Schumm). Saving food made America the fourth lowest in weight nation wide. Which was a good thing because we were way more fit than our enemies. We had many “new meals” mad at this time, they were basically just regular meals but with cheaper foods like instead of using a nice ribeye steak they would use a rump roast. The place where most food rationing happened was in schooling systems. From 1918-1919 America rationed 18,500,000 tons of food in the US. Americas not only rationed food they also conserved energy (Cornell University). Americans conserved a lot of energy during the war. They were able to save energy with DayLight Savings Time, but it was known as “Fast Time”. “Fast Time” add one hour to standard time to have more daylight so Americans could get more work done during the day so they would not have to turn on lights during the later hours.Most people did not like the concept of “Fast Time”, but some people like the idea of having more time to get there work done during the day. They also had heatless Sundays were they would all shut off there furnaces for 24 hours.
