Why Vaccines Should Be Mandatory

An outbreak of a contagious disease threatens children all around the country. All of the doctors and nurses are on the alert. Two mothers enter the doctor’s office with their children. The doctor explains and suggest that prevention is essential. Mother A angrily exclaims “I do not trust your vaccines! My child will be better off without them!” Mother B understands and she gets her child immunized and protected from the contagious disease. When the disease strikes their community Mother B’s child is protected and safe from the contagious disease. Mother A scurries into the doctor’s office frightened because the disease has infected her child. She is worried and asks the doctor if she can still get her child vaccinated. The doctor informs her that it is too late. Every year many children die from a preventable disease. Only eight out of ten parents believe that vaccines should be required. When majority of the population is vaccinated against a contagious disease, the chances of an outbreak of the disease will decrease and most members of the community will be protected. Many parents whose children attend school believe that it is not a parenting decision that affects their child exclusively, but rather affecting every other child their kid comes in contacts with (Vaccines Today). When the immunity rate drops below the threshold, a widespread of the disease can occur. Becoming immunized saves children and their parents not only time but money. It costs less time and money just to simply go to the doctor’s office and receive a vaccination, rather than acquiring an infectious disease (ProCon.Org). When children acquire a vaccine preventable disease they will need to seek treatment which will cost money.
