The perception of government is very important, “and that change begins with schooling” (Davidson 60). If the citizens view themselves as powerless in terms of interacting with the government’s actions, this lack of knowledge of how the government works will continue to perpetuate the current problems we face today. Though there are some aspects of government being taught in schools already, knowing the three branches of federal government and having, “to memorize the preamble to the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address to graduate from eighth grade,” certainly does not empower the youth to make a difference in their communities using politics (Davidson 63). The youth must learn that not all politicians are, “just motivated by money. Instead, the mindset of regulators is captured by those whom they regulate” (Stiglitz 407). If the public schools made it a priority to teach how each student can make a difference in their communities and make the students aware of local politics, then long-lasting reform will begin to reestablish itself from the ground up in our
