Reasons For The Fall Of Ancient Rome

During the eighth century Ancient Rome grew from a small town in Italy into an empire that reigned throughout Europe, Britain, Northern Africa, Mediterranean Islands and most of Western Asia. With all this land under one ruling Ancient Rome was culturally diverse, there was a widespread use of Roman language which included Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian. Many religions were practiced and respected among the people, who were also paying roman taxes. The romans left behind aqueducts , western alphabet and calendars among many things. As their empire grew so did their problems, which eventually led too their downfall. There are several reasons as to why the Roman Empire fell apart , all in which was correlated to one another including social, cultural and political reasons. As the empire expanded over millions of miles of land, it became harder and much more expensive to maintain its army, who had to protect and defend its borders from barbarian attacks. These “barbarians” were Germanic tribes, one of the many were the Goths who made their way through the empires borders. Military spending was a huge burden on the empire, all their money was being spent on the army leaving all other responsibilities on hold such as public housing, aqueducts, and maintaining quality roads. What I believe to have been the cause of the fall was the expansion of land. The greediness that had taken over, where quantity was more important then quality. With having so much land comes many responsibilities that the emperors didn 't have the strength nor intelligence to do take care of, they were too busy living a lavish lifestyle. If the Roman Empire had been more selective of the land they took over and created a system to protect and rule a more efficient way, I bet they would 've been
