Idea Paper: Why the LGBT Community Should have Equal Rights in the Workplace There was a man named John Gaspari who was discriminated against on his job because of his sexual orientation. Gaspari worked for FMC Technologies where he thought he could be a good employee until he was fired. He was often harassed, and called names at work by his supervisor. He then took the issue to FMC’s Human Resource’s manager, but nothing changed after that, so he filed an EEOC complaint and a law suit against the company. After taking this action he was terminated because of his sexual orientation, (TelNews, 2015). Discrimination against someone because of their homosexuality is very unethical. Their sexual orientation shouldn’t matter in the workplace. Long ago people were discriminated in all places because of the color of their skin, religion, and gender. However, now the LGBT community are still not given equal opportunity in their own communities, because they are still being discriminated against on their jobs, many aren’t being hired, and this is forcing them to want to quit and retire early because they feel like they’re not wanted. On June 26 of this year, the Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the rights for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 states. This gave the LGBT community a new outlook on life making them feel as if they finally had a place in society and could be treated just like regular heterosexual couples.“ May Bonauto, the
