Why the high school pass-through approach is hurting the academic youth of our Nation. College dropouts are on the rise in Missouri and there is currently a 50% drop out rate from first year community college students that fail to return for a second year. Studies suggest that the two main causes for this are academic unpreparedness/educational burnout and tuition costs.

To better understand what this means we must first classify the terms. Academic unpreparedness is directly related to high school students not really preparing for college or students that chose to slack off. Education burnout is something that doesn’t just happen to people that start college unprepared. There are actually several factors that could play a role in this one. Too much control is given to the student and they choose to miss. I presented factual information that suggests that academic unpreparedness/educational burnout and tuition costs could be responsible for the 50% drop out rate for first year college students. I have given my own opinions about events that I have seen first hand on how easy it is to take the pas-through approach along with issues that suggest the degree in question may not be worth the time and money put in. In my opinion, it would be better to develop a program that stems from the root of the problems caused from high school pass-through to more efficient educational prep time. Students need to stop learning and start thinking for themselves. Students need to be challenge with real world economics and events and not classify learning as memorizing something out of a book. Practical application is necessary to achieve a useful protocol program to develop more prepared
