Why The Government Should Build More Shelters

Homelessness is a huge problem in America, over 600,000 people in The United States live on the streets. Over 200,000 of that number are families. About 21,000 people die of hunger related issues in America each year. Over 5 million people in America are qualified to stay in a homeless shape alter, about half of that number are children, usually, represents 8.6% of the homeless community. Homeless people are often disrespected; under the age of six. In 2014 organizations identified 49,933 homeless veterans, which they’re spat on, police officers tell them to move from the sidewalk to somewhere else, and people even tell them to get a job. In states like Tennessee, Atlanta, and Utah, they have banned panhandling near schools, by traffic, or everywhere. This makes it extremely hard for the homeless to get enough money to eat or to buy business casual clothes to go to a job interview. The United States government has a plan to help the working poor and homeless, by saving 17 million dollars each year for health care. But this doesn't take effect until 2018, this should be put into effect by the end of 2016, and also build more homeless shelters with that money.

One in every three homeless person is a veteran. Most of the time when they fought in wars they were injured and now disabled and cannot work. Because of the Vietnam war they are neglected from family and society, in mass cases a person will spit on them or throw food at them when begging. There is a percentage of money that goes towards the veterans but it is not enough to get them out of homelessness, or sometimes the money cannot get to them since they do not have an address. With the shelters the veterans could have an address to receive the check then they can spend and save up the money to achieve a higher goal or
