The journey to the colonies was not an easy one, though. Because we live in a region in southwestern Germany. We first had to travel by riverboat on the Rhine River and then made their way to Atlantic seaport, Just the thought of putting your children on a boat hoping to find a passage to America, to seek a better life, through a dangerous and difficult trip across the Atlantic. The conditions on the ships were treacherous, but as the mom, I had to be brave. Many traveled in the part of a ship that was designed to carry cargo. The ship had more people than it should hole with a diverse number of people with their own cultures and religions, the kids never notice will they were playing, but the adults always had a problem with each other. The accommodations bad not enough clean drinking water to go around, not the toilet and washing facilities, made the situation even worries. The people on the ship were sick all the time, the sad thing I ever show was a boy dying in his mother 's arms. I can still hear the screams of the mother being separated from him.
