He has stated that the death penalty may be the only way to keep some people from committing crimes. He has said that this will help reduce the number of victims to crimes such as murder and rape. Haag also feels that if the punishments for a crime is raised then the desire to commit a crime is quickly diminished. I agree with Haag.…

There is absolutely no evidence, out of thousands of statistics, that proves that capital punishment deters crime. In fact, the opposite is true. Studies show that the crime rates in states without the death penalty are lower than crime rates in states with capital punishment (Issitt and Newton 4). Additionally, psychiatrists say that capital punishment may further entice psychopaths to commit crimes because they can feel powerful from testing the limits of the law and its highest penalty (Cuomo 2). In “The Death Penalty Does Not Deter Crime” by Jack Weil, an anecdote is given that further proves that killers are more tempted by the death penalty.…

The sixth commandment of the Bible states that “thou shalt not kill.” : Certainly, this makes capital punishment wrong. Capital punishment was not made to promote killing but it stands as a god-ordained action for human government. According to the author of The Biblical Truth about America's Death Penalty, Dale Recinella, everyone is deserving of death. The criminal laws that were given to man by God were made to work with a community for both victims and offenders, leading us to ask if certain crimes are worthy of death.…

‘Killing people is wrong’, a statement everyone can stand behind, however, in some arguments, would depend on who did the killing (Koch 483). The death penalty has been under the watchful eye of the United States population for some time now, and has developed an audience on both sides of the argument. Many believe the death penalty is morally wrong, alluding to scriptures from the Bible. Others would argue the death penalty is a way of justice for the murderers and ultimately for the victims. The light shed from opposing views could help reach a resolve and put the issue at rest, however, in the meantime, one must pull from both sides to decide for themselves.…

The Effect of Capital Punishment Introduction Has the death penalty influenced the United States in a positive way? How about the crime rate? Some states have abolished the death sentence, but others continue to have it as an option for crimes such as murder. Many debates have focused on the argument that the death penalty lowers the crime rate while others suggest it has no effect on the crime rate. A major premise for capital punishment is that it lowers the probability of someone committing a murder knowing his or her life may be jeopardized at court.…

Executing a ruthless killer sends a message to everyone in society; every life, especially innocent ones are so meaningful and what the murderer did is so wrong that he must be executed for what he did. No person in this world gets to decide who dies and who lives, but when someone murders someone else, why should they have the right to live, get food and get visits from their family while they're in prison and maybe even get to be paroled or finish their sentence and have the chance to live again while their victim is no longer alive. Also, having murderers sentenced to just prison time, send a message to society by making them think murder is not so bad afterall, because they just get prison time like other criminals that steal or people that do not pay their parking tickets. Many people deny that having the death penalty does not lower crime rates, but in states that do have capital punishment, murder rates decrease. Research done by the Federal Communications Commission, SUNY Buffalo, Clemson University, and University of Houston show that executing murderers and people that commit horrible crimes protects innocent lives.…

The death penalty is wrong, inhumane and ineffective. Every year billions of dollars and thousands of man hours go into trying to take convicts lives. These felons are men and women who have committed murders. Some people may say that since they took someone else's life they don't deserve to live themselves, but I disagree with that. Taking the life of the killer won't bring the victim back and is unethical, expensive and unfairly or wrongly given sometime.…

The death penalty has been around for as long as civilizations have been around, but is it wrong? Many people will argue that it is immoral, that the government can not and should not have the power to decide whether someone lives or dies. Many others will argue that it is necessary, whether it is immoral or not, as a punishment for those who commit heinous crimes, like mass murder, treason, terroristic attacks, and anything related to these three acts in any kind of way. So if about fifty percent of people argue that it is wrong, while the other fifty percent argue that it is right, than who is correct? People who argue that the death penalty is wrong, whether because they believe it is immoral or that the government should not have that kind of power, are understandable.…
