Due to the lack of water people are pumping water out of the ground very quickly. Taking this much water out of the ground has some natural effects. In the article, “Why the California Drought is Affecting Everyone”by Katharine Mieszkowski she states “In some areas of the state, the groundwater has become so overtaxed that the earth is literally sinking. Between 2008 and 2011, parts of the Central Valley subsided more than 2 feet.” People are pumping so much water out of the ground, that the ground is sinking. In earlier years we were using about forty percent of the groundwater, but now during the drought years we are using sixty percent of the water. Additionally, the drought and higher temperatures cause the land to become dryer which increase the chance of a natural disaster. As a result of dryer land wildfires are becoming more common. The heat and the drought create a perfect condition for wildfires. There have been a thirty-six percent increase in wildfires in 5 years. The drought and the heat have created many natural disasters in

Although both natural causes and human activities causes the climate what the world is more worried about is that the changes that are occurring today have been speeded up because of man 's activities. A growing population has brought nationwide recognition to Los Angeles and the surrounding area, but it has also brought increasing environmental problems, including water shortages and pollution and air pollution. Now it is questioned whether the causes of California drought is linked to climate change, or even man-made. The severe atmospheric conditions joint with California’s drought occurrence are far more likely to appear with today’s global warming that have not existed before California citizens relied on the large amount of greenhouse gases. Combinations of unusual warm temperatures for California weather and stagnant air conditions, the loss of precipitation has produced a dangerous uproar with incidents relevant to air pollution, wildfires, and increased evaporation. The high increase in evaporation rates gradually lead to greater drying of soils and vegetation, having the potential to affect the natural land-based and manage ecosystems, coastal systems, and both…

After five years of drought, California has been accessing groundwater to provide for their water needs. The access of groundwater use has caused the land to sink slowly over decades, but recently the more extensive pumping has caused the groundwater levels to quickly reach dangerous lows. This has resulted in the land to sink at a rapid rate, putting a large section of California’s aboveground infrastructure at risk. NASA was able to discover this notable difference in land height through radar observation from satellites and aircrafts that have made maps over time to show the sinking. These accurate measurements have shown that some parts of California, like the San Joaquin Valley, have sunk almost a two inches per month, and other areas were much lower over the span of less than a year.…

It’s well noted that the current drought in California has been recorded as the driest period in the state's rainfall history. Farmers have been losing their jobs because their crops wont grow due to the lack of rainwater in California. This drought means that the farmers can’t rely on surface water, so the farmers that haven’t lost their jobs are resorting to their last option, drilling deeper underground for more water sources. Two decades ago wells were usually about a couple hundred feet, but in the modern day wells have come to be considerably deeper. Farmers are now drilling up to two thousand feet underground for more water.…

The 2012-2013 winter season was just as dry as the previous one. However, La Niña was not to blame for this incident. Studies suggest that a high-pressure ridge just off the west coast of the United States of America is the reason such widespread drought conditions proceeded into California’s 2012-2013 winter (Wang, Hipps, Gillies, and Yoon). Since the amount of moisture in the Pacific Ocean directly affects the amount of precipitation California receives, the more moisture in the Pacific, the more rainfall in the west coastal region. In the 2012-2013 winter, the Pacific Ocean contained a surplus of moisture, yet California’s precipitation levels remained below average.…

California is currently suffering in a major drought as we speak. Due to the climate changes, constant high temperatures and not having enough rain is causing the country to be more aware of how they can save water by limiting the usage of their water supply. This problems leads to water restrictions effecting many businesses, residents, and farms. In this article, author Justin Gillis, wrote "Warming is found to intensify California drought", published in 2015 by the International New York Times, and he discusses how global warming is actually occurring by the actions of human emissions and the drought has escalated up to 15 to 20 percent. Gillis talks about the cause of California 's drought by constructing his credibility giving insights on providing reliable…
