The Cabin Faced West by Jean Fritz is a book about a girl in the 1700's who moved to the east that has three brothers David, Daniel, and baby brother. The family moved east because of land.

Ann has a cousin in Gettysburg, they would skip rope, have tea parties, and play with their dolls. Andyr is a neighbor of Ann's, he is a lively boy who wants writing lessons from Ann. Mr. Hamilton is her father. Mr. Hamilton made a rule that if anyone found fault with the west that they would have a bucket of cold spring water dumped on them because they loved the west and did not want anyone comparing the east to the west. Mrs. Hamilton is Ann's mother and she helps Ann in the garden and she cooks and knits and takes care of the baby.
