Why Thanksgiving Is Better Than Thanksgiving

Improved Essays
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Everyone else thinks that Christmas is better than Thanksgiving, but they’re wrong. It’s) the best holiday for several reasons. First, you get to spend time with your family. Everyone loves spending time together, even if sometimes we need a break. Sometimes we get so close over the two days that we have too learn to accept each other’s quirks and differences. Also, there are a lot of great sales and shopping that weekend. I always have too be careful not to spend to much money on “Black Friday”. Finally, I love eating turkey and trying all the different dishes that everyone brings to dinner. Each family member always brings there favorite dish and you’re always so lucky if you can snag a piece

In America they would gather to celebrate Thanksgiving and they will do so at the dinner table. The meal, with roots in the ancient traditions of harvest festivals and in the religious fervor of the Puritans who settled here, has grown into a secular feast of abundance. Whether taking place in Duluth, Minnesota or at the Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, the American tradition is to roast a turkey and eat it along with a slew of side dishes, all in the company of family and friends. So here’s the thing: while it is an iconic food, no one would argue that a roast turkey is the American national dish – turkey on multigrain for lunch aside. Plopping a turkey on an overladen table is reserved almost solely for this day.…

It is Thanksgiving, a day to give thanks for all we have been blessed with, yet all some can seem to do is complain about the family they will have to endure today when some have no family to even think of spending the day with. Or how so and so pissed them off so they are boycotting thanksgiving! Well that's all fine and dandy but think of all the ones who would give everything to have one more holiday with a loved one gone too soon, or Military men and women serving far away and can't be with their families at all, or the military families that live too far away to make a trip home. I know of too many people my age that have lost parents, siblings, children and spouses this year to be ungrateful! I am blessed beyond what I deserve.…

My family and I do not celebrate turkey day (Thanksgiving), however, we do occasionally eat a turkey dinner. It is hard to choose just one item from this dinner because I like combining the flavors of the cranberries, mashed potatoes, and stuffing to create a sweet and savory flavor, but if I had to choose one of the items that the meal absolutely could not go without it would be the delicious stuffing topped with turkey gravy (yes actual gravy not brown sauce.). There was once a close elderly friend of mine who had parkinson's disease, due to his disease his hands shook uncontrollably and it was very hard for him to work on his projects. He invited my family and me over to help him put together a puppet show stand.…
