Why Teens Should Not Have Curfew

Improved Essays
I believe that teens should not have a curfew because if they do have a curfew it is taking their freedom away for one. For two it cause a lot of issues with teens rebelling against the law more so than they already do. For third, it would be wasting the time and resources of the police, and the cops probably have more important things to do than arrest or fine a teen for being outside. Freedom is the very foundation of this country and is the God given right to all living things on this planet. If you try to take someone's freedom and then punish them for it, it goes against our very commandments because they are here to remind us of our past and how our country is supposed to be a sign for freedom. Our ancestors gave us the right to freedom

Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier I, Jhae’da Moss write this to support the majority opinion on the case of Hazelwood v Kulmeier. I chose this decision because this was done with good intentions for the kids. What he did was right, but the way he handled it was wrong. Since the articles were going to become a distraction to the students and offended several students, I believe that the school had the right to eliminate those offensive pages. Even though everyone is entitled to express their opinions, the restrictions were necessary in this case.…

Should School Start Later For Teens? Everyone morning, teens across America must wake up early for school. However, what some people do not realize is that teens are not getting enough sleep, but is absolutely vital that they do. Nora Gold states that curfew laws take away some of the civil rights that teens and young adults have as Americans. Gold states in her essay, “The most obvious constitutional problem is that curfews grant police the power to detain citizens for nothing more than appearing young.” This quote is stating that curfew laws punish anyone who is out after a certain time just because they look young. This also gets in the way of teens who work night shifts for their job or even just being outside their house on the sidewalk (Gold, Nd). Another thing that curfew laws violate are some rights that the teens have from the first amendment, which are not allowing them to go to religious services and even meeting for school that take place at night (Gold,…

Freedom is a human right that is undervalued in today’s society. Throughout history, wars such as the American Revolution have been fought to ensure freedom. Freedom is something that can be taken away by a person of high authority such as the government and parent. It is shown in many dystopian stories how people react to not being able to do what they want and often resulting in a negative outcome, which is why it’s important for humans to be free.…

Teenagers will be teenagers, they will do whatever they want to do and not what they are told to do. Being a teenager myself we find it fun to do the opposite of what we are told to do. So if the law says don't go out past 12, chances are we are going to go out past 12. More teenagers will get in trouble for being out past curfew even if they are just trying to get home, get food, or just doing something completely harmless. I can understand why some people would support the curfew for a few reasons.…

Many parents allow their child under the age of 18 to be out past 11 pm. I strongly believe the law should have no part into setting a curfew for children, their parents should strictly be the ones to do that. T.M vs. State of Florida In this case I am for the strict interpretation of the laws because the right to have freedom of assembly is very important. Every American should have equal rights but the person that is in charge, just like the guardian of the minor should be able to restrict these rights.…

When Nighttime Falls I will prove when it comes to teenage curfews whether it be for teens driving, teens being at home, or middle school teenage curfews, there should be a curfew. Teenagers are trying to fit into the adult world, but yet still need clear boundaries and rules to follow. They are trying to decide where they fit in and are susceptible to the influence of others around them. Without boundaries or curfews, teenagers can fall into situations they may otherwise not encounter. I will address the laws surrounding curfews, I will show research which supports laws being put into place for curfews and I will address the laws put into place mandating parents to be responsible for their child and their actions through the age of 18 years…
