Teenagers work. 80% of teenagers work at some point before graduation and 61% of all teenagers, 16 and above, work during the school year.(NYRA) All these teenagers who work are paying taxes. Their taxes are the same as every other American’s. They go towards infrastructure, Medicare and Medicaid, schools, law enforcement, and everything else the government pays for. The reason we vote is because our tax dollars fund the government. We contribute to the economy with our jobs and purchases. It's a double standard for them to do all these things the same as adults and not have the basic right to vote. This is an example of how arbitrary minimum age requirements are. We have all these different ages that you have to be to do certain things and it's very random. 18 is the age where you become a legal adult. You have the right to give consent and vote. It seems like the age where you would be able to do everything but you only have to be 16 to drive a car and you have to be 21 to drink alcohol. These ages are arbitrary, 16 year olds should be able to vote because they have a stake just like everyone
