Whether or not teachers should be armed is rather disputable, with a lot of information to support both sides. People argue that school teachers should be armed with a firearm for defense purposes and to potentially save their own lives as well as students' lives in the event of a school shooting. They believe that with the proper training and authority, this change in schools could save many lives. Others believe that arming teachers would create more danger in schools and instead of decreasing the number of deaths due to school shootings, that number would rise. They think that not only should firearms not be brought into schools because of its distraction to education, but that teachers in possession of a firearm would create accidental…

The dangers associated with allowing teachers to have guns on the property creates “diminished safety for students, faculty, staff, and visitors” (The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, 2000, p.2). The most prominent concerns reasonably revolve around both “mental illness… and the misuse of firearms” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 1). Higher risk levels of injuries and fatalities occur when firearms are used improperly, and a vast number of people are uneducated on the proper handling of defense weapons. Perhaps a teacher’s mental instability could be unleashed on an irritating student by an easily accessed bullet rather than a simple scolding. The opposing side is very skeptical of the sanity and morals of teachers and their possession of guns in the classroom.…

If an emergency happens at the school and a student becomes a threat to others the staff needs something to protect themselves and others against that student. While a simple pair of scissors or other common class item could work as protection, it would be much more reliable if the staff were armed with real defense weapons. One case of when armed teachers could have helped protected teachers and students is during the case of the Sandy Hook school shooting. This event lead to the death of twenty students and six staff members and many schools in Missouri training teachers to carry concealed weapons(huffingtonpost.com) One argument that might be made is instead of protecting the students the teachers might harm them with the firearm, but to buy a gun and to have one on a campus you must go through thorough background checks and multiple tests to see if they are capable of handling a gun.…

Imagine the idea of being defenseless against an attacker trying to wreck havoc on your teachers and fellow classmates. The worst feeling in the world is when you are helpless, and there is nothing you can do during a situation. Not allowing our teachers to carry a weapon while on school grounds is a great way to achieve this helpless feeling. Also do you think a student would be able to look at a teacher the same after they saw them shoot a person the kids would be tarfided. As already stated everyone is dangerous but people do not realize how dangerous they are until they have blood on their hands. This would also greatly affect their career and if the teacher moved it would be hard to get a job because this would be on their permanent record and the educational board wherever they are will not want to hire someone who is dangerous whether it is in self defence or not. Another thing is what would happen if a student where to get ahold of the gun think of how much damage they could cause with…

The fact that the firearms are concealed is crucial. Since the handguns are concealed, a criminal would be unable to detect whether a classroom has armed staff or not (Crime Prevention Research Center). Students who are nervous when seeing firearms wouldn't be scared because the handguns would be hidden. President Trump advises school boards to protect the staff of each district with insurance to reduce the risk of liability, which should put those with concern for the staff at ease (“Arming Teachers and School Staff”).…

There are many benefits of teachers being able to carry guns on school property. A gun on school property can deter a shooter by letting them know they won’t be the only person with a gun and people at this school are trained on how to properly use them in stressful situations. Teachers having guns also allows for faster response, this is a major benefit because now school personal do not have to wait to be “saved”. Lastly students and family will feel safer if active shooter situations arise, knowing they can be protected. (Lopez.) Even when teachers are armed, it doesn’t mean they can properly respond to a mass shooting by using the gun that they were trained to use. Many people are too shocked from fear to even move. A study shows that; “Law enforcement suffered casualties in 21 (46.7%) of the 45 incidents where they engaged the shooter to end the threat.” These are people trained to do this kind of thing full time, and nearly half of incidents resulted in at least one officer being wounded or killed.…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…
