The concept of taking a stand is the idea of holding firm against someone or something. Taking stands have been around for quite a while in both America and other countries. Taking a stand also takes place in many readings, such as “Beowulf’ and “ Fate will unwind as it must”. The characters of each reading both take a stand against someone. Taking a stand is used to resist oppression, to uphold beliefs, and to make a change in society. Oppression isn’t taking rights away forcefully, but is the repeated use of force and trickery to limit access to resources. This also comes in play in different countries as well as our own. Citizens uphold their beliefs to show that there are many different perspectives on things. They do this to try and make changes in society to better the comunities.

In life there has been many things that have made people take a stand against it. For example the stand against slavery. This is probably one of the most important stand taken. The reason that this stand took place was because the rights of the native American people were just being ignored. They were being treated unfairly and they had enough, so many people got together to protest and stand up against it to get the rights that they deserved. This was protested even back in the day.
