I have been asked many times why I would ever want to be a hospice nurse. I get strange looks when I tell people it’s my dream job. I get the same reaction from most people, they get big eyes, jaw slightly drops, and they always suggest hospice nursing must be one of the saddest jobs created! I’ve wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember, and have felt called to hospice. As a young girl I wanted to be a baby nurse, and wanted to bring babies into the world.…

In my perfect world people would live healthy lives; they would always pick the healthy option rather than the cheap more convenient one. Free clinics would be more readily available for the homeless or less fortunate. The public would be interested in precautions on how to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses. Realistically this is a challenge that our world faces and is one of the many reasons why I want to pursue a degree in nursing. My desire to enter into the medical field and become a nurse stems back to when I was an adolescent; I can remember watching Dr. 90210 do multiple surgeries on patients and I can just remember myself saying “I want to be able to make people feel good about themselves, no matter what.”…

It is estimated that the number of experienced registered nurses will decline for the future, making new nurses graduates the only available solution for this shortage. The 2004 registered nurse sample survey reported that 55 % of RNs will retire between 2011 and 2020. Nurses graduated at the baccalaureate level seems to be the target for hospitals since nurses at this level of education have stronger backgrounds in different areas such as leadership, research informatics evidenced based practice and critical thinking skills.…

I am interested in pursuing a career in nursing. I plan to get my BSN and possibly continue on to get my Masters and become a nurse practitioner. Some of the daily duties of a registered nurse entail gathering health histories, preforming physical exams, dressing wounds, making informed and critical decisions that best suit the needs of patients, directing and teaching nursing aids, promoting health through education and counseling, administering drugs and medications, researching ways to improve patient outcomes, and directing care. Since I am studying to attain my Bachelors in Nursing, there is more opportunity for me to specialize and work in sometimes more critical environments. BSN’s are able to work in the ICU, Pediatrics, Obstetrics…
