Why Study Rapport

According to Stephen Castleberry and John Tanner, “Rapport is selling in a close, harmonious relationship founded on mutual trust” (Castleberry & Tanner, 2011). You cannot receive rapport until the other person perceives you to be like them is some way. The best way to accomplish rapport is to start will small talk. Discuss current news, hobbies, or mutual friends. Small talk can lead to finding common ground with another person. Second, focus on your appearance. Dressing appropriately is a key component of making a great first impression and establishing rapport with someone (Team, 2011). Third, be empathic. In order to connect with the district manager, you need to understand her and see things from her perspective. Next, mirror your body language and spoken language to reflect the person you are talking to. Finally, maintain good posture, look people in the eyes, ask open-ended questions, and smile during the entire interview. There are several ways I would develop a common connection during my interview. First, I would observe the district manager, the I would imitate her.
