I have a particular interest in the mental health side of nursing, as I am a very empathetic person and I feel that I would be able to connect with patients while helping them along the road to their recovery. It also requires concentration and patience, and I am an extremely focussed individual. I don’t get distracted easily when given a task and work hard to complete it. I believe I would excel in this area of study as I have enjoyed researching mental health issues and reading about personal experiences to learn about the different ways mental disorders can affect different people.

We helped teach pupils in a primary school, while learning about the way they lived and seeing the different ways in which their life and culture was different to ours. Working with the pupils allowed me to develop my communication skills as they didn’t understand some of the things we were teaching so I had to use visual communication to explain. The trip required us to have respect for and gain the respect of the primary students, the teachers, and the many other people we came into contact with while travelling in the area.
