While hiding in the annexe, Anne was about the same age as the average 8th grader. In her diary, Anne expresses feelings and emotions that we all also feel and can relate to. For instance, Anne talks about puberty, and also her opinions, which we can somewhat relate to. Anne also writes and talks like us, which makes comprehending the text a lot easier. Through Anne’s vocabulary and language, we will have a deeper understanding of what is going on around her. We will be able to see what she sees and feel what she feels.
Some may argue that students should not read The Diary of Anne Frank. This, however, is not true. If students read the Diary of Anne Frank, they will be able to read a non-filtered primary source of the Holocaust. Also, this will present what the Jewish people experienced under Nazi oppression. The final reason is that we can relate to Anne’s diary. She was a regular teenager living a normal life not much different that ours. In her writing, and expresses thoughts and uses language that we can relate to. These reasons eliminate the concern of reading a boring
