Student surveys taken in earlier years indicated 80 percent of those students admitted to cheating at least once. But the college students were not the only ones; followed up by high school students at 80 percent as well (Pg. 199). Joe Krouse, associate publisher of Who’s Who among American High School Students, linked poor ethics of both parents and kids to be the leading cause. In surveys conducted in 1997-98, 66 percent of the parents of these top students said cheating was “no big deal” (Pg. 199). Clayton goes on to explain how technology has also contributed by making things like plagiarism easier than in the past.…

The central idea of the article “Should children get to have cellphones in elementary school?,” written by Donna St. George discusses the highs and lows of having a cellphone in Elementary school. In fact, it is stated how "It's definitely a trend we're seeing at younger levels – being allowed to bring cellphones on campus," (St. George, paragraph 6). Although this might not be a good thing it is a big trend and we do see cellphones everywhere, for younger kids and even some older ones it could be a temptation for cellphones to be on campus. Another detail shown is "To expect a child to turn it off – and not touch it when it's in his backpack – is a lot to ask for a 7-year-old," (St. George, paragraph 10). In addition to the temptation, children…

Some may cheat because they really don’t understand what the real meaning of academic dishonesty or may not get what’s going on in the classroom for the lessons. Others students may cheat because they feel like they always have to succeed or they look at cheating as tricking their teachers. Some cheaters are acknowledge and some go unacknowledged. You have some teachers in this educational world who grades student work and knows that it has been plagiarized and does nothing about it at all. There has been cheating in schools, workplace and in the government system since the early times. Today students cheat occasionally to try and get ahead on their work, to just get the work done, and to get an unfair advantage on test and quizzes. Today’s culture sees that cheating is not a big deal and decide to do it. IN Mari Pearlman’s article I agree with what she stated. Cheating is everywhere and today’s children see that at their households because of their parents.…

Cheating seems like a task that students would be afraid and ashamed of, especially at the college level. Getting caught and punished and being too scared of the consequences along with the fact that it is immoral are all reasons I do not even consider cheating. The fact that all it takes is a few copied sentences in a paper to ruin your gpa and future is insane, but that is how it should be. It is not only the slackers cheating anymore, but rather highly intelligent, yet lowly motivated students. With modern technology along side to help, cheating rates are escalating to an all new high.…

Phones shouldn’t be allowed in school because if a student decides to bring his or her cell phone to school, there is a possibility that they would use it in class while no one knows. Then, once they get used to doing that, they will start texting while they take a test. This can cause a big increase in cheating. Phones also shouldn't be allowed in school because I saw on the internet that the brain cells can get damaged because of the radiation they give off that damages the brain. The brain cells can't take the wave so they break.…

Cell phones are great, but they just cause so many distractions in school. When students ask if they can look up something, they just gonna get on social media to look at how many likes they got on instagram or how many followers they have. Since we have been talking about cell phones as our writing unit, it made me think of so many reasons why we shouldn’t have cell phones in school. One example from an article called “ Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” says that the texting, tweeting, and Snapchatting during class time is an incredible distraction, and it makes it harder for teachers to teach. Another example from the article” Schools seek balance for cellphones in class” is teachers will get kids saying “ I’ll look something up for English, and while I’m here let me quickly check my Instagram or Twitter feed’ From this article, these were some good reasons why schools shouldn’t allow cell phone usage in school.…
