There are 2.2 million children who are homeschooled in the United States and that number rapidly is growing (Ray). Parents feel safer teaching their kids from home knowing that they will be receiving the type of education they want for their children. A majority of the time, parents think that they are spending money on schooling only to have their child learn pointless material that they will most likely not need in the future. Homeschooling is a way for parents to ensure that their children are learning what they deem important. The problem is, this education being taught by the parents might not be sufficient enough for adulthood. One reason as to why students should not be homeschooled is because parents cannot teach their children as sufficiently as a professional teacher would. A teacher has gone through years of school to learn how to properly educate the children, unlike a parent who may lack expertise, most particularly if they do not have a complete education themselves. If this is the case, the child might be limited to the education they could be receiving compared to if they went to a public or private school. It is necessary for parents to take courses on how to plan lessons for their children and create strategies on subjects like reading and math. Even a lesson on good behavior would be beneficial for the child ("Disadvantages of Homeschooling"). Some parents don 't take this information into account and that leaves the children at a detriment. Some parent teachers prove to be less than mediocre. They can be negligent when giving instruction to their child, unlike teachers giving instructions to a group of students. It is also important to keep records of the child 's progress so that when it is time to apply to college, they have the tools necessary to do so. ("Homeschooling and Educational Neglect"). A parents should take all of the necessary steps in order to bestow their child with the keys to being successful in the future.
