The Importance Of Pressure Among International Students

From 2014 to 2015, there are approximately three Chinese students in ten international students. The statistics from Project Altas, an organization tracks millions of students who study abroad, shows that Chinese students weigh 32.1 % out of 947,926 international students. Going abroad has been an expansionary pathway for Chinese students. Surprisingly, 80% of my classmates have studying abroad from my middle school, where I studied in the public schools. From my observation, international students may naturally meet the pressure in many aspects, briefly as, language pressure, peer difference pressure, and ? pressure. Language is the first pressure international students encounter. As foreigners, English is the second language for most international students, which we learned five times a week yet only focus on doing grammar practice and eventually lead to the so-called “Mute English”. The problem is, before coming to the English-speaking country; international students barely talk in English. Sometimes, international students work harder because they know the admission is very competitive for international students. In order to get a good transcript, students tend to strive for an A for every class. Personally, I always feel very stressful because most Chinese students work very hard. More evidently, my several friends have a 4.0 GPA, and they are the presidents of one or two clubs. From my observation, stay up late until 3 a.m. is an ordinary thing for students in community college who wants to get an A. To be secure, they also spend the whole summer for an internship, which may assist them to go to UC Berkeley, according to their statements. The entire endeavor they made gave me the anxiety and fear. I am afraid that I am the lazy student who may lose her goal
