Should steroids be banned from sports? That is the question many people ask themselves and others. I myself believe that steroids should be banned from every sport. Steroids have a plethora of downfalls to them which should make people realize they’re wrong. They have numerous health repercussions and side effects. They provide an unfair athletic advantage. Steroids even affect the integrity and fairness of the history of sports. Throughout this essay I will explain to you why steroids should be banned from all sports.

One example of how it really affects the integrity of sports is Lance Armstrong. According to the Bleacher Reports article “Lance was born on September 18th, 1971 in Plano, Texas. Lance was one of the top cyclists in the world. He won the Tour de France seven consecutive years and was known as the greatest there is and was.” In 2012, he was caught for doping and finally admitted he was a cheater. Throughout all of his career and all of his titles he was using steroids and receiving blood transfusions to increase his athletic performance. He was the face of a lot of brands and companies. The use of steroids affected his sports career positively until he was caught. The use of steroids gave him seven Tour de France titles that he didn’t deserve. If he wasn’t on steroids during those races, would he have won any of them? It took possible chances away from other riders who put in thousands of hours of work just for those races. He affected many people in their careers and messed up. He received a lifetime ban for use of steroids and cheating throughout his entire career. My question is, why wasn’t he tested once during his entire career? His use of illegal substances impacted the integrity and fairness of sports and the history of sports. It took chances away for a multitude of people trying to win titles. Another example of a player who impacted the integrity of sports in a negative way in Barry Bonds.
