Why Some Choirs Are Better Than Others

Improved Essays
Some choirs have better sounds than others, and that is just the truth some people have to face. Choirs that have good vowels, dynamics, can sight read, stay in tune, have correct posture, and do not overpower the other signing group in the choir are the most successful choirs. Also, choirs that are in engaged in the music they are about to perform, use of their diaphragms and breathing techniques, as well as being focused while performing. This means that choirs without this criteria are usually less successful, and this is why some choir’s do better than others. Movement is a great thing in chorus, it allows you to relieve tension, and be engaged in the piece. When you allow yourself to move while performing you are keeping yourself in time

At the Rex Jazz and Blues Bar on 194 Queen Street West, The Sinners Choir performed in the genre of Americana, Free Jazz to an audience of around twenty-five people. Free Jazz was first introduced in the summer of 1960 when Saxophonist Ornette Coleman and his band recorded This is Our Music for Atlantic records. In the album, “Coleman reordered structural principles to offer the members of his group maximum melodic and rhythmic freedom,” (Anderson 2007, 1). He accomplished an improvised approach to the Jazz genre by providing the opportunity for each musician to play inside or outside conventional cords.…

My sixth-grade year, I joined my middle school chorus. Although I came from my musical background, Chorus has taught me so much. In the first years of being in chorus, I learned how to read music and match my vocals with the notes that were being displayed. I learned the art of dynamics, tone and quality. I began to realize how essential these factors were to the message and emotional value of a music piece.…

The dancers in The Rite of Spring move along with the music in the sense that they are intentionally awkward, abrupt, jerky, jumpy, and somewhat contorted. They move in a way that is unballet-like. The emphasis is on the groups of dancers who move in similar motions. The group aspect of the ballet ties into the modernist style that Stravinsky used. The dancers have blank facial expressions that look very detached and distant, so the mood they convey is shown through their movements.…

“Choral singing,” as aptly put by professionals, taught me a lot about myself. I have always thought that talent is something a person is born with. Eventually, I learnt that not only I earned my talent, but also, I learnt that true talents are not inbred, naturally in our DNA. I…

In this section, performance space is used the most with the first travelling sequence involving the dancer walking diagonally with her leg extended sideways and her arms extended to the side and jerkily advancing them forward in a bird like motion that uses straight lines and high levels. This deliberate animal comparison is used to indicate the subject 's freedom from problems and her joy. Juxta positioning with the second section, this section has another travelling sequence where the dancer bunches up her skirt and has diagonal hitch kicks that use path and higher levels. This contrasts with the second section as even though they both had leaps, section 3 's were much higher and calm while section 2 's were frenzy and quite low.…

Choir has been a very opening experience for me. When I was little I was extremely shy and would be scared to really to period because I felt like they were always judging every single word that came out of my mouth. I didn't like to participate in any school activities because I was such an introvert, but throughout elementary and middle school the only thing I participated in and actually enjoyed was choir. The very few friends that I had were in choir because that is where I spent most of my time. When I got to high school I didn't have any classes with my friends.…

Choir Is Cult Only Slightly Less Cultish Than Band It wasn’t really a question on whether or not I was going to join choir Freshman year. I had always been in some kind’ve choir since pretty much birth-- we’ve got some pretty sick videoes of me making whale sounds as a baby to prove it--from single digits to double digits, I’d always been singing. Freshman year, I sat in the front row, four chairs in on the right of the choir with Spencer Evoy to my left.…

Soon the chorus comes in seeming as though they are muttering the words. They continue to sing the dynamics changing after every phrase is sung. The variety of the changing dynamics continues throughout this first piece, becoming louder and quieter. The tempo and rhythm of the piece was very unified in this piece before any of the soloist began to sing their part. Throughout the performance of the soloists in this piece, the rhythm, tempo, harmony and volume changed drastically multiple times whenever the “idea” ended.…

I went to the Spring Choral concert. I had never been to an actual choir concert, but my school choir often performed at pep rallies and had other performances throughout the year so I had a basic idea of what was going to happen. When I arrived I was surprised by how full the concert was. The first concert that I had gone to was probably only a third to a half full, but this one was completely packed from top to bottom.…

    The Warrior Analysis

For my final composition project I chose to put together a piece titled The Warrior. I was inspired by dystopian societies and the survival method, every man for themselves and the idea that no one can be trusted. I have always enjoyed dystopian novels and fictional tales of these broken societies which inspired the plot for this score. I wanted my use of movement, group interactions, time, space, energy, framing devices, performance mode, and overall structure to reflect a horrific society in which no one is safe. My score began with a lone dancer in the center of the space, curled tightly into a ball trying to seamlessly blend in to her surroundings.…
