Smoking is Bad Why would someone choose to smoke? Smoking can cause harmful effects to your body that can lead to death or a very painful life. Asthma, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are just a few of the diseases smoking can cause. Cigarettes contain many things most people would find disgusting. I have learned from my own experiences that smoking is not a good thing. Yearly, over 443,000 people die from smoking related illnesses. Smoking can lead to diseases such as lung cancer or cancer of the throat. It can cause Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD, which makes it hard for air to get to your lungs.
