The Controversy Of Planned Parenthood

Recently the Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion group, released three videos of Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of fetal body tissues for profit and they stirred up a controversy. Planned Parenthood provides thousands of women with services such as birth control and cancer screenings daily, but they are also one of the largest providers of abortions in the nation. The videos of Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of aborted fetal tissues, made many people very disturbed because of how carelessly they spoke about it. After the videos were released, some people suggested that the government should stop funding Planned Parenthood. In discussions on the issue of the videos being released, some believe that all funds should …show more content…
The funds given to Planned Parenthood by the government are very essential to the women that attend the clinic for their services. They receive “more than $500 million annually in government funding” (Kliff). None of these funds, though, go towards abortions but instead for services such as “birth control, cancer screenings, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections” (Editorial Board). Many of the women that attend come from low-income homes, so they need Planned Parenthood to provide these benefits to them. Taking away the funds that come from Medicaid and grants will cause more of a burden on the women who are already struggling. The Editorial Board from the Washington Post states in their article, “Stop the Vendetta Against Planned Parenthood”, that 's “the last thing either side of the abortion debate should want is an increase in unwanted pregnancies that result in more abortions.” It is not in the government’s best interest to withdraw the money because it will only lead to more conflict about …show more content…
Cortney O’Brien, a writer from Town Hall, describes in her article, “Horror: Third Planned Parenthood Video Captures Abortionists Procuring Fetal Tissue for Profit”, how they were “casually eating lunch” and one person was “callously joking she ‘wants a Lamborghini.’” This makes people think that Planned Parenthood is a very careless clinic and that they think it is alright to do such an awful thing. O’Brien also states, “Anyone who watched the two released videos knows that the casualness with which these abortionists discussed selling body parts proved they have become desensitized to young lives within the womb.” This is why people want the funding to cease. Because Planned Parenthood is portrayed to not care about aborted babies, what is to make people think that they care about the women who attend their clinics for abortions or for other health

As such, ending the Medicaid participation of Planned Parenthood affiliates in the State of Texas is another step in providing greater access to safe healthcare for women while protecting our most vulnerable - the unborn." Texas has launched investigation into the allegations brought forth through the videos on the baby-part harvesting practice of the Planned Parenthood. The health-care and abortion provider has maintained its stance that the undercover videos are selectively edited to distort truth, and do not form any basis of accusation against the…

The video released by an anti-abortion group–the Center of Medical Process–left the impression that Nucatola is talking about Planned Parenthood affiliates selling fetal tissues from abortions for a profit. However, this edited and negligent video ignores the facts of what Nucatola actually said during the conversation. In the unedited version of the same video, Nucatola clearly states that, “‘Affiliates are not looking to make money by [selling fetal tissue]. They’re looking to serve their patients and just make it not impact their bottom line’” (Levitan).…

While it is not known when Planned Parenthood would be able to replace that money with other sources, the CBO estimated that any available way to fill in the gap would eventually run out. This would reduce reproductive healthcare for about 5-25 percent of the people it currently helps. It would mostly hurt women in low-income areas where its difficult to find other options. Without these services, the women in those areas would have a harder time avoiding unwanted pregnancies. The additional births would have to be covered by Medicaid, Medicaid alone would increase by $650 million over 10 years, and with the estimated savings of not funding to Planned Parenthood, net spending would increase.…

Women need Planned Parenthood to help them make the correct medical decisions about their body based on proper medical advice; this organization has helped many women across the nation. The government plans to defund it because they think they own a women’s body. This is false; women own their bodies, not a governing body, a man, or even another woman. The…

Planned Parenthood should not lose any funding or be shut down. Despite recent abortion controversies, Planned Parenthood should not be held responsible for pro-abortion advocates. The organization is pro-choice, and intends to give the choice back to the people in order to allow them to choose a better life for themselves. If Planned Parenthood loses its funding or gets shut down, people everywhere, but especially low-income families, will be put in a difficult standing in affordable health care and wellness. Furthermore, shutting down Planned Parenthood would put many people at a greater health risk than they have now, and worst yet, it will not end abortion.…

Insiders say President Donald Trump is strongly considering cutting off abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood from Title X funding, a move that has liberals very worried ahead of crucial midterm elections in November, according to Axios. The decision would mean that Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics would be forced to choose between either losing federal funding or ending all abortion referrals. This would be historic and deliver a historic victory to pro-lifers, and liberals should be very concerned.…

The only reason defunding planned parenthood is so intensely supported by the public is that the government would be defunding abortions but shockingly, by law federal funding cannot support abortions. That's right taxpayer money — your money — does not go towards funding those services. Federally funding abortions has been banned since 1976. Instead, private donations, money made from fees for service and non-government health services revenue is used to fund abortions.…

Imagine a world where a small group of people could destroy a nation-wide organization with slanderous lies. If the Republicans in Congress get their way, Americans wouldn’t have to imagine. Defunding the Planned Parenthood Federation of America over a false accusation would be harmful to the health and finances of American citizens. Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides many essential health services for both men and women. Not only do these services directly benefit millions of people, but the scientific advancements made possible by Planned Parenthood have improved the lives of many more.…

By preventing Planned Parenthood from receiving federal money, it means people with government funded health care cannot use it for the services provided at the clinics. Many people do not know the exact statistics of the services Planned Parenthood provide, and because of that they may have skewed ideas of the clinic. Without federal funding Planned Parenthood patients who use government provided health care would have to pay for all of the services of the clinic out of their own pocket (Bassett). For people with private health care, this would not be an issue, but for others who lack the money to pay for private health care, they may be in trouble. Planned Parenthood has said that two-thirds of their patients are “low-income and have no other primary health care provider” (Bassett).…

However, Planned Parenthood has overextended its hand to millions of desperate women. Knowing that they can easily get free birth control and abortions, women have lost the sense of gravity and morality that life should be treated with. To lessen the number of abortions carried out annually—a daunting 50 million—women must face reality, they are condoning the killing of their baby, not an "it. " People can't “abort children,”—they can either keep them alive or kill them. A person should not be disposable.…

This has given its non-supporters the extra ammunition they need in order to pursue an attempt to close the clinic down. For years protestors have made their translucent opinions on the Planned Parenthood facilities; some may argue that an abortion procedure is morally wrong whether its religious preference or Pro-life support. In an article written by Nicholas Barden, he mentions, “Planned Parenthood was responsible for performing over 327,000 abortions – 1 in 3 abortions performed in the United States.” He also mentions “the number of cancer screenings have decreased by 50% since 2004, while the number of abortions performed annually has increased over the same time.” These are significant numbers however, as mentioned previously abortion services are only about three percent of the services provided by the…

Besides abortions, they offer many services such as birth control, counseling, physical examinations (that less costly than most clinics), and pre-natal care. There are not too many Planned Parenthood centers that actually perform abortions. If they do not perform such procedures, they are willing to refer a patient to a clinic that will (Planned Parenthood). Why would people fight against such a helpful and crucial facility in our communities (especially with so many lacking healthcare)? Could it be true that it is purely because of one small percentage of what they do?…

Women’s rights has been an issue in the United States since the early 1800’s and until all people are comfortable discussing the fact that in many parts of the world, women have no say in what they can do with their bodies or how it’s treated. A woman should be the only one who can decide what is best for her body. There is only so much that women can do when the one place that helps women with checkups and abortion based questions, Planned Parenthood, is being defunded or closed down. “The House of Representatives is expected to pass a budget reconciliation bill that guts the Affordable Care Act, pulls roughly $450 million in federal assistance from Planned Parenthood and prevents Medicaid recipients from getting reimbursed…
