Recently, more and more students prefer to study abroad. And a number of international students in the U.S, which is the most attractive destination in the world, has increased 72 percent since 2000. As we know most of undergraduate and postgraduate tuitions are incredibly expensive. Moreover students have to not only afford the tuitions but also the expenditure of living, which make the budget of study abroad become higher. As a result, there is a popular topic that whether students should spend lots of money to study abroad. From my standpoint, every student, who can afford the expenditure, should study abroad because it could be a life-changing experience and bring lots of advantages such as exploring potential creativity, being more independent …show more content…
And for the sake of students to obtain the benefits of study, they must be out of their comfort zones. In fact, because of our nature everyone loves comfort zones where stress and anxiety could reduce to the minimum, where people can know what will happen next and can easily plan accordingly. However, if students stay in their comfort zones all the time, they will begin to hold themselves back instead of making some challenging decisions to learn, take new risks and try new things. More importantly, being out of comfort zone to try new things is one of the most important factors to allow the students become more creative. And stopping making progress is a serious problem for undergraduate or postgraduate students. In the words of Alina Tugend, "Being out of the comfort zones can push people to obtain goals they never thought they could". And Robert M. Yerkes and John D. Dodson (1908) did a classic experiment in the field of psychology. They believed that in order to achieve the best performance, people need to get into a state that our stress and anxiety levels are a little higher than normal. Although that is a good way to save money, there are still some differences between taking online courses and attending real courses in a classroom. Most of online courses do not allow students to instantly ask questions to the professor. Without necessary interactions, the students could be very confused and they can hardly keep a high efficiency during the class. Therefore, distant education cannot replace study abroad. Moreover, this view definitely ignores that the value of study abroad is more than building knowledge. Actually the value of study can be measured both by knowledge and by experience. As mentioned study abroad is a significant experience for students.
