As a child grows older and goes through puberty, it shifts the body’s internal clock making it natural for most teens to fall asleep after 11. So, if a student falls asleep at 11, they will need to wake up at 8 to get the recommended 9 hours of sleep. But most students have to be at school by 7:50. Students who live out in the country and ride the bus to school have to wake up almost an hour earlier than students who live in town. 25 of our junior high students chose the elective woods. Students who have that early of a start are more likely to skip breakfast and stay up later doing their homework. Schools should start later for students to encourage better attitudes at school and at home. If schools started later students would be more concentrated and focused during class. Students will be less stressed in the morning to get ready for school and will have more time for breakfast. If school starts later it will also improve teachers attitudes! Their students will be more excited to learn and will have better grades! Those are only a few of the many reasons why I think school should start
