It is reasonable to be angry in that situation, but business along with the economy is not so effortless and easy. There are different factors that need to be taken into account. The BG News article by Raven Rush includes requirements of an internship. The first requirement listed is, “1. Pay for Play? Dave Anderson, Laura Freedman, Lee Goldman, and Peter Goplereus III have all written articles on whether or not the NCAA should pay their student athletes. Their articles, “Top 10 Reasons College Athletes Should be Paid”, “Pay or Play”, “Should College Athletes Be Paid”, and “No Control Over Their Rights” all provide many reasons as to why student athletes deserve payment. The NCAA is in the wrong for accepting “free labor” from these athletes. Although many student athletes are on scholarships, often times it is not enough, so they deserve fair compensation.…

For example, those who disagree argue that college athletes are compensated with a scholarship. Joel Menderson of the University of Florida writes, “students get full scholarships to some of the country's best public and private universities and are able to achieve a level of education they otherwise may not be able to attain without the scholarship”. The students do get free education from schools around the country. Of course, College Athletes get scholarships. However, college athletes should be paid because they make more money off of the athlete than the athlete recieves.…

The topic has been discussed on numerous occasions on whether or not college athletes should be paid for playing sports for major universities. A lot of people feel that they should get paid for the hard work they do, while others such as myself say that they should not be paid. College students should not get paid due to the fact that they are already getting paid on scholarships, it hurts the school, and it doesn’t further their education. The first reason I feel that college athletes shouldn’t be paid is due to the fact that a lot of them are already having their education paid for due to scholarships. Now not every single college athlete gets a full scholarship but a lot of them do.…

The first reason why student athletes should be paid is because scholarships that NCAA give to students don’t always cover full expenses (Christopher Davis Jr / Dylan Oliver Malagrino 2013). Universities promise students 4 year scholarships when NCAA only give 1 year scholarships and at any moment take the scholarship back if injuries happen or encounter takes place. Some scholarships cover the classes, books, and maybe dorms but leave out food, transportation or health coverage.…

A third area that funding is being directed to is athletic facilities and coaches’ salaries. Money is often spent on new practice facilities and locker rooms so that colleges can increase recruiting efforts. When colleges are able to acquire good players for their athletic teams they can increase revenue generated at the games. The problem is that the revenue generated doesn’t go back into the university’s system to fund education. The money instead goes to coaches’ salaries and bonuses along with new team facilities.…

For students to understand the investment of an education shows a maturity that they developed by taking out loans. It is required for students to undergo a seminar about loans and how it should be monitored. This helps students understand the real life aspect of adult hood and money management ("Huffington Post" ). If college were to be free, yes students would not have to take out any loans whatsoever but many would not develop the maturity needed for life after college. It is understandable for students to disagree with the argument and refute that college is something that should be free to anyone.…
