Every single day, I sit and wait for a students tip to break, hoping that they will finally use me again. But of course, they use him instead. Why won’t anyone use me! No one understands how I feel. Sometimes I feel like i’m not even there! I watch the students throughout the day and one of my favorite subjects is writing because everyone’s pencils become dull and worn out. The kids use him every time and it makes me so jealous! I feel like it’s a competition but, I want to win it. When the kids come back from the library, sometimes they knock me on my belly. Those students who have been diagnosed as having a learning disability or disciplinary problems, and who appear to not be able to learn, may instead opt out of the system and rather put their intelligence and creativity elsewhere, outside of school. In the story, “The Tattooed Man”, Kohl starts off by telling us, the readers, before anything can be accomplished, teachers need to challenge the hopelessness that is felt by students. In Harper Lee’s famed novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a key theme is to consider things from someone else’s point of view. The characters are asked to step into other’s shoes and look at the world from another’s perspective, thus becoming more thoughtful and considerate. In the fast moving world of today, this value has gradually been left behind. The mindset of personal success and one person’s need above others’ has caused the act of being thoughtful and considerate a thing of the past.…

Imagine being born into a family with green eyes and everyone related to you has brown eyes. You might feel different, not understood, or even alone at some points. If you would feel that way, then how do you think children born into the LGBT community feel after realizing their sexuality is a unique one? As parents, first time or not, you all need to grasp the painstaking reality of who your child is interested in. Parents should accept their children no matter what their sexual orientation because this problem could cause permanent "damages", child abandonment and worst of all, the child may go through a suicidal stage.…

Breaking School Policy to Benefit Students’ Future Public schools are considered a second home by many students due to the fact that most of the hours of their days are spent in a class or on campus. With that being said, schools have the responsibility to not only educate students, but to keep them safe from the dangers of the outside world. Schools should be a place where the students go to gain knowledge, develop social skills, and grow as individuals in society. According to the course text, Understanding Violence and Victimization, there have been a number of incidents and acts of violence directed at students and teachers in school (Meadows, 2014). When students attend school, their primary focus should be on learning, without having…

As a team captain of my high school’s cross country and track teams, I make an extra effort to reach out to my underclassmen to make them feel welcome and supported. I know in my first year of running in high school, it was hard to feel welcome in a sport when everyone was literally running away from you. Luckily, I grew faster and made many amazing friends, but I believe everyone should be included in the team dynamic, even if they are not a top runner or an extrovert. New people on their first day are usually timid and wide-eyed. I have found that it only takes asking their name and saying something somewhat funny for people to loosen up.…

In light of the new state mandated desegregation of schools, one local high school is overcoming amazing obstacles. At the beginning of the school year parents and students rioted over the new desegregated school, T.C. William’s High. Despite this rioting and racism issues the football team has managed to shine, bringing the whole school along with the community together. The team themselves had issues with a new black head coach Coach Boone. T.C. William’s Titans was thought to me the underdog among football at the beginning of the school year and now is the team to beat.…

Around halfway through the year, classes became unbearable with the constant, dehumanizing schoolwork. Every assignment tugged and cracked any remaining portion of uniqueness I had left. I felt that the curriculum was intentionally designed to ready us to be a factory worked with a company ID instead of a name, just like the A.T. PERSONAS forced down our throats. Since he subjected me to infernal besiegement on a daily basis, I thought I should pull a prank on my homeroom officer. Every day he would use his superfluous title as ‘officer’ to subject us to his whims, just to inflate his pompous ego.…

In Tom Vilsack’s article, Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools? , he argues that banning unhealthy snacks and drinks would be helpful in abolishing nation’s childhood obesity epidemic. Mr. Vilsack states, in America, the food children are eating in school is half the calories they should be consuming and that can lead to diabetes at a young age and can carry on with diseases when they get older, therefore i agree on banning candy and soda. Children as said, can get diabetes if they do not watch what they eat, in this case, they will eat if the food the school serves taste good even if they do not know what exactly it is. At a young age, it is easier to get diabetes without healthy choices and be overweight.…

Hazing are the humiliating acts done to a person by a group of people as an initiation into the group. These acts are done mostly in sororities and fraternities across the world. Many hazing activities can include physical, psychological, and even emotional harm. One hazing incident occurred in 2005, where Matthew Carrington and his friend were ridiculed by their “frat mates” during the fraternity’s “Hell Week”. Both were forced to drink five gallons of water, and were then left in the basement with cold air blowing on them.…
